News Release October 9, 2025.

On the morning of October 7, 2025. a large number of police officers broke into the house and arrested Pastor Y Nuen Ayun, the president of the Montagnard Evangelical Church of Christ of the Central Highlands. After many hours of interrogation at the ward police station, Pastor Y Nuen Ayun was escorted to the Dak Lak provincial police station. Here he was officially detained and prosecuted for the crime of "Undermining the solidarity policy" according to the provisions of Clause 1, Article 116 of the Criminal Code.

Immediately, the media agencies of the Vietnamese Communist government reported that Pastor Y Nuen Ayun was "enticing ethnic minorities to participate in reactionary activities directed by the exiled and anti-government FULRO organization". This is a completely false accusation because Pastor Y Nuen Ayun is only a preacher and sharing the word of God with the followers of our church.

In addition, they also propagandize the Montagnard Evangelical Church of Christ of the Central Highlands as "hiding behind religion to carry out activities that violate national security". On the contrary, since its founding until now, the members of our church have been regularly harassed and interrogated by the police, and forced to renounce their faith.

We strongly oppose and condemn the arbitrary arrest and violation of religious freedom against Pastor Y Nuen Ayun and our church. We only wish to pursue our own religious beliefs, in accordance with Article 24 of the Constitution of Vietnam and Articles 5-6 of Vietnam's freedom of religion law. 

We urgently call on the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, human rights organizations and governments around the world to:

1. Call on the Vietnamese Communist government to respect the human rights of its people as enshrined in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, and  2. Urge the Vietnamese Communist government to stop its persecution of the Montagnard Evangelical Church of Christ of the Central Highlands and immediately release Pastor Y Nuen Ayun.
